Pay-for-performance comes to Ontario Hospitals

News of the month in Ontario Healthcare:

Govt. of Ontario is mulling about setting hospital budgets based on pay for performance which will be interesting to see how things turn up once the funding allocation model is announced.  The program named Health Based Allocation Model (HBAM) that made up the news in Ontario recently.

Headlines in the media were split between calling it a “Radical change in funding formula” – which is quite true in Canada and “Initiative worth watching”.

More details on HBAM’s can be found on LHIN (Local Health Integration Network, another made-in-Ontario solution) sites. Here is the link to Waterloo Wellington LHIN HBAM information.
